Women and men who have been abused often blame themselves for the bad things that have happened to them – things that are never their fault.
In addition, others may have blamed you for being abused. In our society, women and men are often blamed and made to feel guilty for the bad things that have happened to them; this lowers the survivor’s self-esteem and can get in the way of healing and recovery.
